Audi has unveiled the Q6 e-tron offroad concept, showcasing cutting-edge portal axles that redefine off-road capability for electric vehicles. With an impressive ability to tackle gradients up to 45 degrees, Audi is venturing into new terrain with this rugged addition to its electrified lineup.
- Widened and Raised: The Q6 e-tron now boasts a width increase of 9.8 inches and a height increase of 6.3 inches.
- Powerful Portal Axles: These custom-designed axles offer a 50% torque boost at the wheels.
- Climbing Mastery: Capable of climbing steep gradients thanks to improved engineering.
The portal axle modification has boosted total wheel torque to an astounding 9,883 lb-ft, courtesy of a significant 3,245 lb-ft gain. However, to accommodate these modifications, the top speed has been dialed back to 108 mph—an acceptable trade-off for enhanced off-road capability.
Under the hood, the Q6 e-tron maintains its 94.4-kWh battery and 800-volt architecture. In standard form, the dual-motor system offers 375 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. Notably, range figures will differ from the stock 307 miles due to the concept's modifications, although Audi has not specified exact numbers.
"The Q6 e-tron offroad concept is a reinterpretation of quattro," says Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. This vehicle exemplifies the potential of Audi's all-electric platform, hinting at exciting new horizons for off-road enthusiasts. However, for now, this remains a concept with no immediate production plans.
While Audi has typically sidestepped the off-road segment, this concept hints at a potential shift. As electric off-roading gains traction, the VW Group, Audi's parent company, is letting the newly revived Scout brand handle this segment for now.
Audi's Q6 e-tron offroad concept marks a bold step into the off-road realm, combining electrifying technology with innovative design. For now, it remains a concept, but it could signal exciting future possibilities for Audi's electric adventures.
