Toyota is expanding its electric lineup with the Urban Cruiser, a compact SUV positioned below the bZ4X, and is aimed at competitors like the Kia EV3.
Expect two battery options: 49kWh and 61kWh. If you're looking for more power, a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version will be available. Sales begin in autumn 2025.
The Urban Cruiser revisits a name from the late 2000s, but with a modern twist. Its design is similar to the Suzuki e-Vitara, thanks to a collaboration between Toyota and Suzuki. The front features elements reminiscent of last year’s Urban SUV Concept, combining Prius-like headlights with a concealed grille.
From most angles, it mirrors the Suzuki e-Vitara, boasting a squat stance and flared rear arches. The full-width rear light bar enhances its appeal.
Choose from two single-motor options: 144hp or 174hp. The dual-motor version offers 184hp with all-wheel drive. While Toyota is keeping specifics under wraps, the larger battery might provide a range close to 250 miles.
Inside, distinguishing it from the e-Vitara is challenging due to identical layouts. Although simpler than the Peugeot e-2008, it’s stylish and intuitive. A 10.1-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard, complemented by a 10.25-inch digital driver's display.
Pricing details are expected next year, likely around £30,000, in line with competitors such as the Kia EV3 and Volvo EX30. Standard features will include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, a 360-degree camera, and wireless smartphone integration.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser revives a legacy name with fresh electric energy, offering adaptable powertrains and cutting-edge technology. It arrives in 2025, promising to be a strong contender in the compact EV segment.
