According to Japan’s Best Car magazine, a Toyota executive has hinted at the potential return of the Celica. After being absent since the mid-2000s, this iconic model might soon rejoin Toyota’s lineup and possibly enhance the GR performance series.
The Celica's comeback was teased in Toyota's anime series Grip. At an event during Rally Japan, Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s former CEO and current chairman, reportedly brought Yuki Nakajima on stage to confirm the news, boldly stating, "We are making the Celica."
While such claims are more credible coming from a Toyota Vice President, it's wise to remain cautious until an official announcement is made.
Tributes to the Celica have also been seen with the GR86 SEMA build. Additionally, Grip season two features a promising outline of Toyota's performance offerings, showcasing the MK8 Celica among future models like the third-gen GR86 and the revamped MR2.
Toyota's performance ambitions are evident even without official confirmation from Toyota North America. Moreover, Honda’s revival of the Prelude might suggest a similar path for the Celica.
Though not officially confirmed yet, the buzz about the Celica's return is generating excitement. Fans eagerly await its revival as Toyota continues to bolster its performance lineup.
