Just over a year after the introduction of Lightship's innovative travel trailer, the company launches into its new phase. Formerly known as the L1, this sleek and aerodynamic creation is now named the AE.1. The first to take the stage is the AE.1 Cosmos Edition, with a limited release of 50 units, promising delivery by mid-2025. Early reservation holders are already lining up for their chance to experience modern camping luxury.
Beyond the Cosmos Edition, buyers can choose from three other trims: Atmos, Panos, and Terros. Each offers unique features, but if you're longing for the Timberline or DuskHorizon look, the Cosmos is your only option.
The AE.1 can sleep four and offers an all-electric camping experience powered by a full-length solar roof and battery system. Inside, you'll find a complete bathroom and a fully-equipped "Galley Kitchen," featuring a dishwasher and an induction cooktop. Plus, the innovative TrekDrive system eases towing by providing self-propulsion.
The solar output peaks at 1.8 kW, with a 77 kWh battery and a charging rate up to 155 kW through a Tesla-compatible NACS port. Lightship promises a 300-mile power-assisted range. This luxury offering is priced at approximately $250,000, excluding tax credits.
Driven by a desire to redefine the travel trailer industry, Lightship was founded in 2020 by former Tesla veterans Ben Parker and Toby Kraus. Their vision of creating innovative, all-electric recreational vehicles is deeply rooted in their extensive experience with automotive EV technology.
Lightship's debut was the L1, a purpose-built, battery-powered trailer highlighting aerodynamics and all-electric connectivity. Unveiled at the Electrify Expo, it left a lasting impression with its minimalist design and spacious interior.
The L1 abandons typical slide-outs for a pop-up roof, creating a 10-foot high, window-filled space that emphasizes a connection with nature. It's three times more aerodynamic than traditional trailers, significantly improving towing efficiency.
With a self-propulsion system supported by up to an 80 kWh battery and solar power, Lightship enables a quiet, week-long off-grid experience. It measures 27 feet in length and 8.5 feet in width, comfortably accommodating up to six campers.
Production for the Lightship L1 is expected to start in late 2024, with reservations open for $500. This pioneering trailer starts at $125,000, or $118,400 after tax credits, providing an eco-friendly escape far surpassing its predecessors.
Lightship's AE.1 Cosmos Edition heralds a new era for camping trailers, blending sleek design with advanced technology. With a price point akin to luxury vehicles, it represents a leap into a sustainable and electrified travel future.
