Hyundai is recalling certain 2025 Tucson and Santa Cruz models due to a transmission issue that poses a risk of the vehicles rolling away. This affects 42,465 vehicles—35,560 Tucsons and 6,905 Santa Cruz models.
The problem arises from a faulty console extension wiring assembly. This defect might allow the wiring to contact the shifter mechanism, enabling the transmission to shift out of Park without pressing the brake.
Although no stop-drive warning has been issued, Hyundai advises using the parking brake in addition to shifting to Park.
Affected owners will be notified to visit a Hyundai dealer for a free repair. This repair involves rerouting the wiring harness to prevent contact. Hyundai plans to notify dealers electronically and send out letters to owners by January 19, 2025, also promising reimbursement for any previous out-of-pocket repairs.
Summary: Hyundai is recalling 42,465 Tucson and Santa Cruz models to address a wiring issue that could lead to rollaway situations. Owners are advised to use the parking brake and will receive a free repair to fix the issue.
