Touted as the most powerful and fastest car globally, the Devel Sixteen captures the imagination with its audacious design. Its highlight? A 12.3-liter quad-turbo V16 engine, reportedly capable of 5,007 bhp and 3,757 lb-ft of torque. Originating from the UAE, the prototype emerged in 2014, with Devel later stating that the road version would be toned down to 3,000 bhp, reserving the full power for the track.
Did the Devel Sixteen ever hit the roads? A couple of concept models exist, but only one is reportedly drivable—and sluggish at that. After unveiling another 'production version' in 2017, a car was supposedly delivered in 2021 featuring only a V8 engine. The V16 engine, tested on a dyno at Steve Morris Engines in the US, remains absent from any finished Devel sports car. Meanwhile, Bugatti has already executed its V16 vision with the V16 Tourbillon.
Devel's website remains active, positioning the brand as a 'Legend in the history of supercars,' which might feel more like an urban legend. Their Instagram showcases at least two variants, hinting at some realizations, but engine specifics remain elusive. Meanwhile, the company turns its attention to a different kind of vehicle—the Sixty, a proposed 6.7-liter diesel 6x6 truck.
The Devel Sixteen promised unparalleled speed and power but has yet to fully realize its vision. With limited developments and a shift in focus to other projects, the Devel Sixteen remains more myth than reality.
![]() | The Devel Sixteen seems more like a dream than a reality. It's hard to take claims of 5,000bhp seriously when there's so little to show for it. |
![]() | Interesting concept car, but it's been years with little progression. We'll see if it actually hits the roads. |
