Lisbon's Web Summit recently showcased groundbreaking transportation technologies.

Jet Fuel from Air

Twelve, a tech company, has developed a process to convert carbon dioxide and water into jet fuel using renewable energy. This approach aligns closely with the e-fuel initiatives by HIF Global and Porsche. Twelve has already raised over $600 million, highlighting its potential despite the substantial costs involved.

Autonomous Ride with Vay

Vay is operating in Germany and Nevada, offering a unique ride service in Las Vegas with ten electric Kias. The cars are delivered to passengers using remote "tele drivers," and the passengers take over upon arrival. Once the trips are completed, the cars are remotely piloted back. Vay's rides are priced below Uber rates.

Underwater Safety with Beam's Scout

Beam introduced Scout, an AI-enabled submersible robot designed for offshore wind tower inspections. Unlike traditional methods that require large crews and ships, Scout allows for swift and frequent inspections, ensuring enhanced safety and efficiency.

Accelerating the EV Revolution with Monumo

Monumo, a British firm, uses advanced simulations to refine electric motor designs. CEO Dominic Vergine reports that they have managed to reduce magnet mass by 11.3%, cut costs by 5%, and achieve a 2% efficiency gain. This optimization leads to significant savings in vehicle production.

The Future of Air Taxis: Volocopter

Volocopter is planning to deliver 18-motor electric aircraft next year. While the current models accommodate a pilot and one passenger, future designs will seat three. Although the aircraft is ready, regulatory certification issues have delayed their planned launch for the Paris Olympics.

Summary: The Web Summit in Lisbon highlighted innovations such as Twelve's renewable jet fuel, Vay's autonomous rides, Beam's Scout for wind farm safety, Monumo's EV motor optimizations, and Volocopter's upcoming aircraft.
