A Legend Reimagined

Built by Legends (BBL) launched in 2019 with one clear mission: to transform the iconic 1989-2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R models—specifically the R32, R33, and R34—into outstanding restomods. In collaboration with Mine's, BBL elevates the Skyline’s original 280 hp engine to an exhilarating 650 hp through a twin-turbo upgrade.

Import Tales

These Skylines, all right-hand drive, were never originally sold in the US. However, thanks to a 25-year import waiver, BBL has successfully placed five of these revamped masterpieces in American driveways since 2021, with the first model making its debut in Texas.

A Global Restomod Phenomenon

Restomod mania combines modern powertrains with vintage cars, captivating enthusiasts worldwide. From Mustangs to Defenders, the movement transcends cultural boundaries. In Japan, shops like Rocky Auto have quietly been shaping the restomod scene, which is now expanding stateside with BBL's efforts.

Creative Sparks

Founders Masaharu Kuji and Katsu Takahashi began in the 80s with performance car videos, later moving into streaming and igniting the drifting craze in America. Their passion for performance cars inspired them to establish BBL, offering a unique approach while taking cues from pioneers like Singer Vehicle Design.

Crafting the Ultimate Skyline

BBL aims to deliver a modern Skyline experience by incorporating upscale interiors and high-tech features like infotainment systems, all while ensuring drivability and comfort. Similar to Singer's reimagined Porsches but with their own twist, BBL draws inspiration without imitation.

Precision Engineering

At the SEMA show, BBL's Bayside Blue R34 GT-R impressed with its urban agility, powered by Mine's MB7 engine paired with a sturdy Getrag transmission. AP Racing brakes, sound insulation, and bespoke interiors elegantly fuse form with function.

The Market and Beyond

As Skylines continue to gain popularity, sourcing donor cars in Japan becomes increasingly challenging. Restomod prices range from $350,000 to $450,000, varying based on the engine choice. Toprank International manages US imports, ensuring that BBL Skylines maintain their intense spirit.

Expanding Horizons

BBL is expanding its craftsmanship to Honda Civics, with projects like a fifth-gen EG6 and a commissioned EK9 Type R already in progress. Their dedication to artistry promises limitless possibilities with JDM classics, envisioning a future driven by turbocharged Toyota MR2s.

Summary: Built by Legends, established in 2019, revitalizes Nissan Skyline GT-Rs (R32, R33, R34) into modern masterpieces boasting 650 hp. Rooted in Japanese performance media, BBL explores the global restomod landscape, blending heritage with innovation as they honor the legacy of the Civic.
