In a surprising twist, Audi has abandoned plans to differentiate its electric and combustion models through odd and even names. Instead, they have introduced a new naming convention: all new Audis will now bear their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

The New Naming System

- VIN Identification: Each Audi will be registered by its unique 17-character VIN.
- Goodbye Traditional Names: The A, Q, and RS designations, along with terms like Sportback and Avant, are being retired.

Customer Feedback

An insider revealed, “Customers were confused about model identities, so we wanted to create a straightforward system. This new method reflects size, bodystyle, and powertrain clearly.”

Legacy Terms Still Intact

Despite the changes, Audi will retain:
- A random two-digit number to indicate power output.
- The term TFSI, stamped boldly on vehicles to signify petrol engines—now meaning "Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection."

A Shift in Branding

In a further shake-up, Audi’s iconic slogan ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ will be replaced with ‘Was ist das?’ signaling a fresh approach in branding.

Summary

Audi's transition to using VIN numbers for its new car names aims to eliminate model confusion and enhance clarity for customers. With a commitment to distinctive identification, the shift marks a significant evolution in the brand's naming strategy.
