Toyota's ninth-generation Camry introduces hybrid powertrains across all models, available in both front- and all-wheel drive. Keeping its classic sedan silhouette, the 2025 Camry receives a facelift to align with Toyota's updated design language. You can choose from comfort-focused LE and XLE trims or sporty SE and XSE variants.
The 2025 Camry debuts Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, delivering 225 hp in front-wheel drive. This results in improved fuel efficiency, boasting 47/48/48 mpg city/highway/combined. As deputy editor Alexander Stoklosa notes, "Toyota has vastly improved the Camry’s hybrid system, no question."
The Camry impresses with a smooth ride, gracefully absorbing bumps. Judges found it engaging on winding roads, although brake pedal responsiveness needs attention. While the cabin design is modern, some materials feel cheap and allow noise from squeaks and rattles.
Priced at $39,720, the XLE offers ample creature comforts. Back seat comfort, multiple power ports, and a wireless charging pad enhance usability. "For an everyday midsize sedan, the new Camry excels," says associate editor Justin Westbrook.
At $42,260, the XSE trim offers sportier handling with a firm ride, thanks to its sport suspension and all-wheel drive. It features a striking Cockpit Red interior. While fun on curvy tracks, it sacrifices some comfort and refinement.
In Car of the Year evaluations, the XLE emerged as more comfortable and refined, aligning with the Camry’s commuter-friendly nature. Though the XSE offers a sportier drive, the XLE better meets daily driving needs. If Toyota refines build quality issues, the Camry Hybrid stands poised for success.
Toyota's 2025 Camry redefines the hybrid sedan with efficient powertrains and refined driving dynamics. While the sporty XSE intrigues, the XLE shines for everyday practicality. Addressing build quality will enhance its standing further in the midsize segment.
