The 2024 Porsche Panamera GT makes a subtle yet enticing entrance, with a refreshed front end and dazzling taillights seamlessly integrated into a mini ducktail. This model focuses on incremental improvements, boasting about a 3% overall enhancement.

Model and Features

In our Car of the Year (COTY) assessment, we tested the rear-drive base Panamera, featuring a revamped 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The interior has undergone a tech upgrade, with expansive displays similar to those in the Porsche Taycan, improving user interaction with clear graphics and seamless wireless connectivity, notably via Apple CarPlay.

Performance Insights

According to associate editor Billy Rehbock, the Panamera's understated exterior hides its thrilling performance, thanks to its vigorous new engine full of torque. However, editorial director Mike Floyd noted that the 348 hp seemed stretched when moving the hefty 4,410-pound sedan. Nevertheless, it stood out as a prime choice for daily driving within the sports sedan category.

Driving Experience

The Panamera excels dynamically, delivering superb cornering grip without noise and offering a serene, smooth ride. Its air suspension enhances comfort, although some axle hop was observed in certain turns. Despite its precise steering and strong brakes, the lane keep assist drew criticism for its abrupt corrections.

Interior Comfort

There are some drawbacks, such as a high cowl affecting visibility and the lack of massaging seats, which is unusual for a $132,575 luxury cruiser. However, the rear cabin impresses with heated memory seats, dual USB-C outlets, and stylish, albeit shallow, cupholders. Legroom suffices unless front-seat occupants are exceptionally tall.

The Competition

The evolutionary nature of its improvements faces stiff competition from within its own brand, chiefly the electrically-driven Taycan. As Floyd remarked, this rival might overshadow the Panamera's appeal with its burst of electric prowess.

Evaluation Context

This review was part of our 2025 COTY assessment, following criteria such as efficiency, design, and performance. Eligible entries must be new or significantly revamped.

Summary: The 2024 Porsche Panamera remains an elite choice in the four-door GT segment but faces pressure from its own Taycan sibling, which enthusiastically embraces the electric future. While its updates are well-received, they may not be revolutionary enough to secure its top position.
