Van's career began with McMullen magazines, later moving to Popular Hot Rodding. A standout moment was the “Four Ball Rally,” where he raced from Boston to San Diego in a 1981 Dodge St. Regis. Rising to editorial director at Argus, he launched the prestigious European Car magazine.
Legendary Collaborations
As PR manager for Carroll Shelby, Van built a lasting partnership, notably stepping in at the 1992 Indianapolis 500 to showcase the Cobra-inspired V-10 monster.
Passions on Display
After MotorTrend, Van divided his time between Texas and California, building a collection of classic and luxury vehicles, including his beloved 1968 Dodge Dart GTS convertible, a tribute to the TV show Mannix.
A Final Chapter
Despite health challenges, Van spent his last years embracing life, surrounded by friends and enjoying fast-paced hobbies. His legacy lives on through over 1,000 TV appearances and articles, encouraging future journalists to pursue their passions deeply.
