The self-driving Maserati MC20 has achieved an impressive speed of 197.7 mph at Kennedy Space Center, setting a new unofficial world record. This remarkable feat was accomplished by a talented team of AI engineers from Milan's Polytechnic University and the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC).

Record-Breaking Highlights

- Speed Achieved: 197.7 mph
- Previous Record: 192.8 mph by IAC's AV-21 (a racing car)
- Previous MC20 Test: 177 mph in Italy (November 2022)

Paul Mitchell, the head of IAC, emphasized the significance of these records, stating:

> "These records showcase our commitment to advancing AI driver technology and robotics. Our goal is to enable safe and sustainable high-speed autonomous travel on highways.”

According to Prof. Sergio Matteo Savaresi from Milan Polytechnic, the AIDA team's recent tests have improved the AI's safety, stability, and reliability—all critical factors for urban mobility.

The Future of Self-Driving Cars

In addition to breaking speed records, a self-driving version of the Maserati MC20 Cielo successfully navigated 37 miles of the iconic Mille Miglia route in 2023, proving its capabilities on historic roads.

Next Goals

- Test urban mobility in crowded environments like Rome.

Summary: The Maserati MC20’s new speed record showcases the potential of autonomous technology, paving the way for safe and efficient self-driving cars on highways and in urban settings.
