Ford has unveiled the much-anticipated electric Puma Gen-E, two-and-a-half years after its initial announcement. While it bears influences from the Mustang Mach-E, such as a filled-in grille and unique alloy wheels, the overall design retains the classic Puma look.
Inside, the Puma Gen-E features a raised center console, made possible by the absence of a gear lever and handbrake. This offers additional storage space, a wireless phone charger, and a sliding armrest. The drive selector is conveniently located behind the steering wheel, and there's an optional one-pedal driving feature.
Ford's SYNC 4 infotainment system has been updated to support Apple and Android devices, and it includes Alexa voice assistance.
The Puma Gen-E is powered by a single front electric motor, delivering 168bhp and 214lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0-62mph in eight seconds and reaches a top speed of 99mph, outperforming its petrol counterpart. With a 53.8kWh battery, it promises a range of 234 miles and can rapidly charge from 10-80% in just 23 minutes at a 100kW charging station.
Weighing 1,538kg, the electric Puma is slightly heavier but offers impressive space with 574 liters of boot capacity, surpassing the traditional Puma model. It also includes a 43-liter frunk for additional storage.
Jon Williams, Ford's general manager, emphasized, “Puma is a success story... Puma Gen-E is our best ever Puma, combining a fun-to-drive experience with energy-efficient technology.”
Orders are open now, with deliveries starting in spring 2025. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but multiple trim options are expected.
