The K4 we examined wasn't exactly like the final production model. The K4 GT-Line offers a sport-tuned suspension and engine options, ranging from the base 2.0-liter engine with CVT to a 1.6-liter turbocharged I-4 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Delivering 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, the K4 GT-Line Turbo has slightly less power than the Forte GT. Testers appreciated its agile handling, although cabin noise on rough surfaces was noted. Acceleration to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds was decent, but turbo lag during city driving was less appealing. The transmission’s sharp shifts earned praise. "Manual mode is snappy," said Deputy Editor Alexander Stoklosa.
The K4’s interior design and packaging won over judges. The GT-Line's dual 12.3-inch displays, along with a smaller climate control screen, stood out. The EV9-inspired steering wheel connects the K4 to Kia's broader lineup, with mode selection tucked into its bottom spoke. "Rarely does a car in this segment display such design cohesion," noted Features Editor Christian Seabaugh.
In the rear, the K4 offers one of the roomiest second rows in its class, providing ample headroom and comfort. Its 14.6 cubic feet trunk is slightly smaller than a Honda Civic's but still spacious.
The pre-production K4 points to a bright retail future, though it remains uncertain if more affordable variants will offer similar allure. With refinement, this K4 could stand out in its segment, contrasting its predecessor’s used-car comparisons.

Eligible vehicles must be new or significantly revised.
